New Smoke Alarm Legislation applies from 2017
The Queensland Government has implemented smoke alarm legislation changes that are part of a 10 year rollout plan.
The aim is to upgrade and install interconnected photo-electric smoke alarms throughout every Queensland home.
Commencing immediately with new and renovated homes. Followed by leased and sold properties by 2022 and existing dwellings by 2027.
What does this mean for your home?
To comply with legislation, interconnected photo-electric smoke alarms are required to be installed from:
2017 – in all new and renovated homes
2022 – applies to all homes leased or sold
2027 – all existing domestic dwelling/home
How many smoke alarms do I need and where?
The new smoke alarm legislation will made Queensland homes the safest in Australia in relation to fire safety. The legislation specifies that all Queensland homes will be required to have fitted interconnected photo-electric smoke alarms in all bedrooms. Also, in hallways that connect bedrooms with the rest of the dwelling and on every house level. The link below will give a map of where the smoke alarms should be placed, based on the type of resident/owner you are.
